KS1- Y3 lesson plan

Text: Super duper you by Sophy Henn                                           Lesson plan by Andrew Moffat

Enquiry question: What am I like? ( or Can I describe my personality?)

RSE links: the importance of self-respect and how this links to their own happiness

Starter: Look at the front cover, what do you think this book might be about? Why are there lots of different objects around the child? What do you think the objects might show us about the child?

Main: Read Super duper you by Sophy Henn  and discuss:

-          Who do you think is telling the story?

-          “Sometimes you’re this, sometimes you’re that, sometimes you’re in between” what does this mean? Are we always the same all the time?

-          In the story how do we see the child change? What different bits of the child do we see?

-          “Sometimes you’re polka-dotty when everyone else is stripes” how do you think the child feels in this picture being different – is it ok to look different?

-          “Sometimes nothing is quite right” how does that happen?

-          “The things that make you different are the things that make you, you!” what does this mean?

-          “You’re so many different things” – how can we be different things? Can you think of an example?

Activity:

Children to consider the different things that make them who they are. Draw their own version of the front cover with a collection of all the things about them around them on the page.

Older children could label the objects and write sentences for them. The aim is to show that we are all many different things and that’s ok. It’s also ok to show that sometimes we feel sad; children could show a range of feelings using faces or storm clouds etc

Plenary: “Be bold be proud be brilliant” what does this mean? What can we be proud of as a class today?
