Enquiry
question: How do I find the sunshine inside me? |
RSE link:
How important friendships are in making us feel happy and secure / that
healthy friendships are positive and welcoming towards others and do not make
others feel lonely or excluded |
Starter:
what is a rainbow? Why does the child link the rainbow to happiness? Look at
the dedications at the start of the book; CC dedicates the book “to all the
kind people I know” and CJI dedicates it “for my friends and neighbours -with
love” why do you think they used those words and why do you think they wrote
this book? |
Main:
Read “How do we paint a rainbow” and discus the following questions: ·
Why does the child think the sky needs
cheering up? ·
“It’s the love that binds our family, friends
who help us make it through” what does this mean? Make it through what? ·
“putting all your heart into the things you do
or say” what does this mean? ·
“The glow you feel inside you when you make
somebody proud” what does that glow feel like, why didn’t the author write
“the glow you feel inside you when you feel proud”? How do you make
someone feel proud? ·
“Find the sunshine that’s inside you and a
rainbow starts to grow” how can we have sunshine inside us? What does this
mean? |
Activity:
Grandpa’s advice is to “think of things that make you happy, all the kind
people that you know”. Make a list and illustrate all the things that make
you happy and the kind people that you know. Extension:
think about how you can make someone else feel proud. Write a note or draw a
picture to try and achieve this. |
Plenary:
is a rainbow really made with hope and kindness? Why do you think Grandpa
says that? How is he trying to help his granddaughter? In what ways are
rainbows used today to cheer people up and make people feel happy? (NHS
rainbow / Rainbow flag) why do you think people choose to use rainbows in
this way? |
